Life as a Referral Agent
As a Weichert Referral Associate, you can keep your real estate license active without the fees and time demands of full-time sales. You earn on your own terms.
There are no minimum or maximum requirements for the number of referrals you place.
No! As a referral agent, you control your schedule and can work from anywhere, at any time.
Membership & Dues
The Weichert Referral Associates membership fee is $129, billed annually.
The membership fee is billed annually on the date you originally signed up.
Your membership fee covers:
- Holding your real estate license in active status for one calendar year
- Facilitating referral placements, ensuring referral agreements are signed electronically, and supporting sales agents in serving your clients
- Periodic webinar training and new content shared through our social channels
- A referral-to-close success rate of 1 in 2, well above the industry standard

Referrals can be placed in all 50 states, not just your state of licensing. You may also place international referrals in select countries, subject to local regulations. Please inquire for more information.

Commission Payments
The referral fee is 37.5%, with 7.5% going to Weichert as a corporate fee and the remaining 30% split between the Referring Agent and Weichert.
Example:

- $400,000 Sale Price
- 2.5% Commission = $10,000
- 37.5% Referral Fee = $3,750
- $750 to Weichert
- Remaining $3,000 split between the referral agent and Weichert = $1,500 each
Your commission depends on the home’s sale price and commission rate. Our average referral fee in 2024 is $2,400.
Commission checks are processed within seven days of receiving the closing check.
Commission checks are sent via USPS First-Class Mail to the address we have on file. Please notify us promptly of any address changes.
Licensing
Go to the state’s real estate licensing board website.

- Enter your name or license number.
- Click Search.

In New Jersey, license renewals occur every two years on odd-numbered years. For other states, please check with your licensing authority.
In New Jersey, the renewal fee is $100 every two years. For all other states, please check with your licensing authority.
In New Jersey, there is no continuing education requirement for Referral status. Other states may require continuing education, so be sure to check with your licensing division.
To terminate your affiliation, submit a written notice by email or mail. Your broker will process your request within five business days, and you’ll receive confirmation by email. Your license will then be placed in inactive status.
- Contact your new broker to confirm the transfer process and begin the necessary paperwork.
- Make sure your continuing education is up to date.
- Notify your current broker in writing (email referral@weichertrealtors.net or by mail).
- Work with your new broker to complete all transfer paperwork, provide proof of continuing education, and pay any required fees.
